Code as music. All songs are files made with Sonic Pi. They're fairly basic programs that use randomness (coin flips or dice rolls) to trigger and sequence musical events. These songs are an experimental collaboration with my laptop. I like to think I was jamming with my computer. The randomness can provide pleasant surprises and alignments or sometimes just isn't successful and doesn't sound good, similarly with the process of improvisation. I wanted to let the songs literally play out and be what they are but also something you could enjoy or maybe even dance to. Looking at a screen was a big part of this process so I wanted that to somehow come through the music too. I heavily used bitcrushing effects as an attempt to "pixelate" the sounds as if they were physically emitted from a screen, add a little digital hiss and fuzz. Light and sound are all waves, right?
